Former 154-pound champ Austin Trout (27-2, 14 KOs) had to get off the canvas twice before earning a unanimous decision win over Daniel Dawson (40-4-1, 26 KOs) in the main event of ESPN Friday Night Fights.
Trout was sent to the canvas on two occasions during the third round, but was able to use his jab and straight left to keep Dawson at the end of his punches. Despite the shaky third, Trout continued to outbox Dawson, who began to fade in the later rounds and scored his own knockdown in the eighth round. Scores were 97-90 from all three judges.
In other action, Erick Bone (15-1, 8 KOs) scored a unanimous decision win over Mahonri Montes (28-4-1, 20KO) in a 10-round junior welterweight bout. Scores were 100-90, 97-93 and 97-93.
In the opening fight, Ahmed Elbiali ended things with a right cross that connected on the temple of Dwayne Williams that sent him crashing down face first. The referee didn’t bother counting as he was out cold. Fortunately Williams was OK as he was walking around and talking a few minutes later.
